Scott Ard. Normally, such an alarm doesn't cause much anxiety because you have maybe another 20 or 30 miles before you really need gas (and we're fond of pushing it to the limit).
Minimal upkeep and a great valueI bought it new in 2006, and have no complains in regards of its quality and image that Jeep created in tgis SUVI absolutely love my 2006 Jeep Commander. A few weeks ago had to drive a hundred miles west into a raging snow storm to take care of an urgent family matter. I understand this is a common complaint for 2006 Commander. We got lucky when we found our Jeep. On the other hand, there is ample headroom, accented by two attractive skylights, which don't open but can be covered to reduce direct sunlight. It’s been a perfect car for our needs. A full-time all-wheel-drive system is also available, and our Limited used the more advanced Quadra-Trac with a two-speed transfer case. I try to keep it in top notch condition and I'm rewarded with its reliability. It was undoubtedly the pinnacle of Jeep’s innovation, imagination and effort to creating something rugged crossed with luxury. The Commander comes in two basic versions: The standard model starts at $28,235, and another $8,000 or so will get you the Limited model. A navigation system with satellite radio and a bunch of nifty electronics such as heated seats, power pedals, and a reverse warning system, add to the luxury feel. The Commander's standard third-row seating makes for cramped quarters throughout and limited visibility.
It had been well maintained and still runs strong. It did not rate the Commander on side-impact tests. Will soon have the front differential bushings replaced and it should be like new.
Another dominant feature of the interior is a parking brake handle that we presume draws its design inspiration from the tiller on a sailboat. 2006 Jeep Commander Review: I love this Jeep..but I hate the material on the seats, it stains even from rain water. In 2006, Jeep released the V8, 5.7 liter, 4x4, Hemi, Trail Rated, Limited Commander. You do, however, pay for the pleasure, with an estimated gas mileage of 14mpg in the city and 18mpg on the highway. The two forward-facing seats are accessible by folding down the passenger-side seat in the middle row, but you need the agility of a mountain goat and the narrow hips of a 12-year-old boy to get back there. A five-speed automatic transmission is standard regardless of motor configuration. With the defroster on at full (and uncomfortable, because of the high heat) blast to keep the windshield clear, it walked through the unplowed snow with ease and agility. Even after being clipped by neighbor pulling out of their driveway, Jeep parked in front of my house, they were able to fix noise.
A boxy exterior and a boxy dashboard house a nav system with boxy graphics. The 2006 Jeep Commander is a powerful and well-appointed upscale SUV. The dash is not exactly overwhelming, but it felt a bit claustrophobic and took some getting used to. 2006 Jeep Commander Handout. SHARE STORY. It is a shame, the economy dictated that Jeep drop this model, it is a really great vehicle!! You may not really notice the gentle slope of the dashboard in your current car, but you'll appreciate it more when you contrast it with the Commander's upright version. It's remarkably "new looking" inside and out, so I expect to still be driving it for several more years.
Bought this 2006 Jeep Commander Limited in 2015 with approximately 218,000 miles on it.
From the outside, the Commander does have a commanding presence. Is it a vehicle for lugging the family around in (a militarized minivan), or is it a rugged mountain machine for a gaggle of guys? The Commander was closing in on the Land Rover/Range Rovers, also a great vehicle. With the third-row seats up, visibility out the rear window is reduced to a porthole-size window up near the roofline, making it nearly impossible to see anything behind the car that is less than about four feet high. It drives excellent and is very quiet.
Jeep boasts that the Commander is the first seven-passenger Jeep to be Trail Rated--meaning it passed certain tests for traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation, and water fording.
We asked two kids, aged four and nine, to ride around back there, and they absolutely loved it (separate AC and heating makes it tolerable). But when we checked the car's system info to see how many miles were remaining before we hit empty, it read 10. We never felt quite certain that the right side of the car was clear when attempting to change lanes (although we're sure that with practice, most owners would grow more confident). Get reliability information for the 2006 Jeep Commander from Consumer Reports, which combines extensive survey data and expert technical knowledge. We speculated that this may have had something to do with an audible override in the navigation system, but it occurred even when the nav was not operating. The Commander comes with a 3-year/36,000 powertrain and limited vehicle warranty, and a 10-year/60,000-mile rust warranty. She loves it and the do nothing four wheel drive...It is the largest Jeep vehicle ever produced, and the 7 passenger feature comes in handy on occasion. I bought it four years ago with 218,000 miles on it. That and normal scheduled maintenance, plus an occasional small part replacement, is all that's necessary to keep it on the road.
