My first platipus record was back in 96, I never thought of their tunes as psy or goa, to me Platipus were straight trance/acid with a few select goa tracks such as Technosomy's Elektron Bender being a notable goa release, mostly their music was lush sounding acidic trance, for those who are trance purists then Platipus was at the forefront, I was disappointed when they changed their cover art logo around 2000 as this reflected a change in musical direction as well which wasn't as good as the music before the change, thats not to say they didn't release some very cool tunes such as Patrick Reids Splat and pink hearts Elektronika were reflective of their older tunes. My first piece of vinyl was Union Jack- Two Full Moons & a Trout. At its beginning Platipus Records had an impressive signal to noise ratio in its releases. It's perfectly fair to not like their current output, but it's also only fair to acknowledge their significance. He is equally comfortable changing down a gear for the snappy, techy ‘Der Riese Milz’, diving into the darkness on ‘Seelenfarben’, and building superb elements of growling tension through ‘Black Light’. Union Jack ‘Cactus’ (Airwave’s Dark and Long Mix)Originally released in 1994, ‘Cactus’ is regarded as one of Union Jack’s finest moments.

Sure, a lot of the thunder's gone, but they still manage to put out releases that feel slightly left of center.
