Attraction With a population of about 40, all sorts of abandoned buildings and old cars laying around, and a hot dry climate, this place feels very much like a ghost town – like maybe something akin to the Wild West. And then you rock up to the Silverton Hotel and are greeted by a couple of donkeys lingering just outside and… nothing makes sense anymore.Do take a look inside the pub, though: it’s absolutely brimming with oddities, funny quotes, and Max Max 2 memorabilia (yep, another film set around Broken Hill). If you make it to Silverton, you might as well stop at the nearby Mundi Mundi lookout, offering panoramic views of the surrounding Outback landscape. MandatoryThe never-ending Australian Outback, only a few km from Broken HillThis is a lookout on the hill opposite the Broken Earth Complex, on the other side of Broken Hill, where the water treatment station is. I decided to keep it outside the village description because this hotel would be a good reason by itself to justify a trip there.I had many friends visiting Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane etc and sometime they tell me that they can’t find really any huge difference between the Aussie pubs and the European/English pubs. The main reason is that the cities are now so cosmopolitan. The roads are only unsealed however, at least in the dry season, this is not a problem even if you don’t have a 4WD.Driving in the park is like driving in an open air zoo with an high concentration of local animals as Kangaroos and emus but not only, goats are always around the corner You expect to see many kangaroos around, and indeed there are few of them, however the emus are the real owners of this land, just everywhereThe top attraction in the park is the old Kinchega Woolshed. In fact, I think the extent of my knowledge was that it was located in bumblef*ck New South Wales. In my head I’d placed it somewhere between Sydney and Melbourne, but in actuality Broken Hill is closer to Adelaide if you can believe that.

There is almost a sort of museum. However just walking in the woolshed is an experience by itself, especially if you think that in the heydays there were over 6 million sheep in the area which is now a real desert! That gives again an idea of how the outback is changing, unfortunately towards a dramatic dryness. The woodshed in the Kinchega National Park built almost 150 years ago.If you drive from Victoria have a stop at this memorial tree. Attraction As I usually say, the beauty of the outback is that you can’t get bored, every single season makes drastic changes to the landscape. The Menindee Lakes area is another sign of the change in the Australia geography. If you made it to Menindee than extend your trip to the Kinchega National Park.
