You get electric front windows, (manual) air-conditioning, remote central locking, power steering, front fog lamps and neat digital instrumentation. Previously, the Kwid was available with a five-speed manual gearbox only and with a fair portion of the (primarily urban-based) market demanding a clutchless driving experience, there was clearly a gap that needed to be closed. The rear portion of the 2018 Renault Kwid remains unchangedThere is, however, one significant update made to the rear and that can be seen near the 'Renault' logo on the boot.

The display itself is standard definition (SD) unit, however, the colours are pretty vibrant and the touch responsiveness is also good.2018 Renault Kwid AMT comes with a segment-first rear parking cameraThe rest of the cabin remains unchanged, offering the same all-black interior with black and red dual tone upholstery adding a bit of contrast to the cabin. You can smooth out the transitions by lifting off the throttle momentarily (as you would in a manual car), but it's never a particularly fuss-free exercise. It's only at highway speeds where things deteriorate. In December 2017, it was the third best-selling passenger car with 1 120 units finding homes.Renault South Africa has been on the receiving end of negative press with regards to the Kwid's safety features, or at least the model's lack of ABS and front passenger airbag. We achieved a figure of closer to 5.5 L/100 km, which is still excellent. Renault now offers an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) in its Kwid. Sure, there is still that typical judder when you get off the line or drive in bumper-to-bumper traffic, but the jerkiness smoothens out as you up the pace.Despite its lack of grunt or a manual override, the Kwid feels comfortable on the highway as well. More importantly, with the creep function and a rear-view camera, it’s also easy to drive and park and that’s all you really want from a car like this. Lift off the throttle when shifts take place and the Kwid becomes a bearable city slicker, but it starts to struggle at highway speeds, particularly when it needs to perform an overtaking manoeuvre or take a gap while travelling in the fast lane.A major criticism of the Kwid (in its current incarnation) remains the lack of safety features. The display, of course, is viewed on the 7-inch touchscreen Media NAV (navigation) infotainment system on the dashboard, which itself is a big USP for the Kwid, considering it's the only car in this segment to get one. With the ultimate goal of spending his life writing about cars, Hannes studied journalism at the University of Stellenbosch. Available in Dynamique trim, it gains comfort features such as air-con, front electric windows and one of the most comprehensive infotainment systems in the budget segment of the market. This touchscreen unit features satellite navigation, USB/Aux input, Bluetooth connectivity and speed-sensitive volume control. Thankfully, this AMT variant gets contrasting red inserts for the seat backrests and piano finish for the centre console which do their bit in lifting up the overall ambience.Seat comfort up front is impressive for a car of this size, with adequate bolstering and back support.

However, like all popular models, the Kwid too slowly started to lose its charm after a while.

A the time of this report, Renault was the 5th biggest brand in terms of new vehicle sales and by the end, the marque will be represented by a total of 80 dealers. In fact, Renault claims that the AMT version is more fuel efficient than the manual, with the former boasting a claimed consumption figure of 4.4 L/100 km and the latter offering 4.7.

As for the all-important shift quality, the gearshifts aren’t exactly seamless but the trademark rocking motion linked to AMTs is noticeably less in the Kwid compared to the Alto K10 AMT. The fact that the 2018 Renault Kwid AMT gets more segment-first features at no additional cost only sweetens the deal, while making it the best automatic hatchback in the country! At the rear, Renault has also added a new 12-Volt charging socket right below the C-pillar, similar to the one seen on the Duster. 2018 Renault Kwid MY19 1.0 Dynamique (ABS), Swith 18500km available now! He eventually became the (youngest-ever) editor of CAR in 2011, a position he occupied for two years. In terms of handling, the Kwid retains its light steering feel (good for puttering around town) but there is more body roll than what’s expected and the steering itself is devoid of feel. Renault Kwid 2018 Mileage The Kwid 800cc is the most fuel efficient in its category, offering a fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl. Renault South Africa has been on the receiving end of negative press with regards to the Kwid's safety features, or at least the model's lack of ABS and front passenger airbag. This definitely is a welcome addition for those who frequently drive in bumper-to-bumper traffic.2018 Renault Kwid gets the same 999 cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine with a 5-speed MT or AMT unitHowever, in terms of performance, the AMT unit hasn't changed much from the pre-facelift model. Most definitely. Experience luxury in small cars with good ground clearance. For the money, you also get a 5-year/100 000 km warranty and a year of free insurance (provided it's not used for business purposes). In terms of design, the only clue you'll get that this isn't a normal Kwid is the Easy-R badge on the rear. The Kwid Dynamique Automatic sells for R147 900, undercutting the next-cheapest automatic by around R20 000. So, behold! To drive the Kwid AMT smoothly takes as much concentration as it would in a manual car, so why bother?Furthermore, the integral hill-hold function of a normal (torque-converter-type) automatic is also missing in the Kwid, so when pulling away on upward slopes you have to use the handbrake or brakes to avoid rolling back (again, similar to driving a manual car).Pulling away smoothly in the Kwid requires some concentration, as there is no creep function. I wish I could say the same for the air vents and the boot/fuel release which feel quite low rent. The steering is a bit light but there is decent feedback and it offers ease in manoeuvring.2018 Renault Kwid gets more features and still makes for a very good value propositionSo this brings us to the question, is the 2018 Renault Kwid better than that older model? …
